Mr. Vinodrai Devraj Patel
Founder
Mr. Vinodrai Devraj Patel, founder of Oceanic Foods Limited, was a visionary entrepreneur and respected figure in India’s dehydration and export sector. Born into a well-established business family in Kenya, he inherited a strong commercial instinct and a deep understanding of operational excellence. Early in his career, he worked in the family-owned Kenya Printing Press, where he developed a meticulous eye for quality and a lifelong interest in manufacturing, printing, and product craftsmanship.
In 1972, Mr. Patel moved to Jamnagar, Gujarat, and, together with his father, laid the foundation of Oceanic Foods Limited with a clear vision: to introduce Indian dehydrated food products to global markets. At a time when food processing and agricultural exports from India were still in their nascent stages, they built a company defined by high standards, supply chain integrity, and a commitment to long-term relationships.
Through Mr. Patel’s strategic foresight and ability to execute complex international deals, Oceanic expanded to more than 50 countries under his leadership, establishing itself as one of India’s trusted names in food exports. Mr. Patel’s contributions to international trade were formally recognized by the Government of India in 1981, when he was awarded by the President of India, His Excellency Shri Neelam Sanjiva Reddy, for Outstanding Export Performance.
This achievement was a proud milestone not only for Mr. Patel and Oceanic Foods, but for the entire city of Jamnagar and India’s dehydration industry as a whole.
In addition to his work at Oceanic, Mr. Patel played an active role in several industry and civic institutions. He believed that a successful business must contribute meaningfully to the ecosystem it operates in. He served in leadership and advisory capacities in multiple organizations across industry, trade, education, and community development, helping shape institutional direction and foster collaboration across sectors.
Mr. Patel was known for his disciplined leadership, sharp business judgment, and long-term approach to value creation. His legacy continues to inform Oceanic Foods’ approach to operations, quality, and global engagement. Even after his passing in 2022 due to Covid-19, the principles he upheld remain embedded in the company’s culture.
A guiding philosophy he often quoted from his father continues to reflect the mindset that shaped both his leadership and his life:
“સવારના સમયે નીચે જો, પાંવ જમીન પર રાખીને હંમેશા મહેનત કર અને જમીનથી જોડાયેલો રહી.
અને રાતે ઊંઘતા પહેલા ઉપર જો, જાણ કે તારા ઉપર છત છે અને તેના માટે કૃતજ્ઞ બની જા.”
“In the morning, look down - stay grounded and work as hard as you can with your feet on the ground. At night, look up - be grateful for the roof above your head and find contentment in that.”
At Oceanic Foods Limited, his enduring values continue to illuminate every step we take and every decision we make. Though he is no longer with us, his vision, integrity, and unwavering commitment to excellence remain deeply woven into the very fabric of our organization.
